It seems that the figure of event manager, responsible for the events in Spanish advertising companies, is mostly female. This is one of the conclusions of the ‘Study on the Events Sector in Spain‘, elaborated by the EMA (Event Managers Association) in this market and that was carried out exclusively based on the contribution of those responsible for corporate events within companies and organizations. The figures are: 76% women versus 24% men. A clear feminine majority in corporate.

What happens in the agencies?

Without a specific study in Spain that endorses it, and based on our perception and experience with other partner agencies, the same thing happens in the event agencies. Many of the teams are made up of women.

Data from other European countries, such as the UK, reveal that the number of leading women in event management, as well as in travel and tourism institutions has increased by 40% in the last 3 years. In most of the main agencies and event management companies, women also outnumber men (5 versus 2) in project management teams, both junior and senior. In addition, speaking with more than 50 women managers in the international event industry, at least 98% confirm that they have never felt disadvantaged as women in the event management industry.

Those of us who dedicate ourselves to the events live every day that, indeed, ours is a very feminine sector, but we detect that there are not many women in high-level positions. Often in awards ceremonies, generally the CEOs, owners or executive heads (especially of large agencies or companies) that receive them are men, when the teams that have managed these events are mostly women. It seems that there are many in an executive and department management and few in the boards.

In our case we can affirm that we represent, with all the letters, women in this sector, since in La 5ª we are 85.7% women (including in this gender the managerial position) and 14.28% men.
